What is FIRST?

FIRST stands for "For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology", founded by Dean Kamen, an inventor and entrepreneur, along with Vice-Chairman Woodie Flowers. FIRST's mission is to increase participation in science and technology among children and teens, or "to create a world where children dream of becoming science and technology heroes" (Kamen). FIRST has 3 divisions: FLL (FIRST Lego League for Upper Elementary and Middle School), FTC (FIRST Tech Challenge for Middle School and High School), and FRC (FIRST Robotics Competition for High School). Dream FIRST is our team's gift back to FIRST, a niche that caters to students elementary school and younger (ages 3-10).

What is Dream FIRST?

Dream FIRST is a science literacy initiative for children ages 3-10 developed by FRC Team 178, the Enforcers from Farmington High School in Farmington, CT. Dream FIRST's objective is to cultivate children's interest in science and technology from a very young age. The program revolves around the adventures of Gizmo, a lovable robot, along with his two human friends, as they strive to achieve their dreams by using science and technology. The story is told in the book Meet Gizmo: The Start of a Journey, published in 2006. You can learn more about the history of Dream FIRST, the activities that take place in a Dream FIRST event, and how you can get involved.
