Activities
A Dream FIRST event consists of a variety of child-friendly activities that cater to a wide range of interests. The materials necessary for these activities are contained in the Dream FIRST Kit of Components. Below is a list of stations that can take place at a Dream FIRST event.
Science Experiments
Children can learn about many different aspects of science and technology through these interactive experiments. You can find the procedures for the experiments here.
Compass Experiment
Pulley Experiment
Balloon Experiment
Reading Corner
Mentors read the Dream FIRST books to very young children at this station. Older children can each read their own copy of the books. This station is set up to be comfortable, with pillows, blankets, and a mattress to sit on.
Coloring Corner
Children can color pictures from the Dream FIRST books at this station.
Puzzles
Children can try their hand at puzzles in this station. The puzzles are a picture of Euki and Oliver.
LEGO Simple Machines
At this station, children can work alongside a mentor to construct simple machines using child-friendly Legos. Children can either follow one of several designs that are included in the Lego kit, or create their own design.
Picture With Big Book
Here, children can get their pictures taken with a background containing the three main characters in the Dream FIRST book series.
VEX
At this station, mentors teach children how to drive the small, remote-controlled Vex robots. Often, the children are encouraged to experiment with two different Vex robots, one for torque and one for speed to understand the difference in driving strategy. Children can also obtain their own personalized Robot Driver's License, autographed by Gizmo.
Big Bot
Here, mentors show children how to drive the big FRC robots that the team uses at competitions. Emphasis is put on safety, and this station can only take place in areas where there is a wide open space that can be set aside. All spectators and drivers are required to wear safety goggles.
